Japan got the game on November 8th 2012. North America got the game on June 9, 2013. Europe and the United Kingdom (including Ireland) on June 14, 2013 and Australia and New Zealand on June 15, 2013.
Sharing houses via Street-Pass.
Act as mayor because of a misunderstanding. As mayor, you will have a secretary - Isabelle. The other three players are normal residents.
Players are taller than previous Animal Crossing titles and the animals are more "realistic" in size (bears are larger and squirrels smaller in size in relation to the player character).
Players can still change
, including pants, skirts, shoes, socks and swim suits.
You can have four player profiles, but only the first player created is mayor. The other three are normal residents.
Unlike in previous games, the time will be situated on the top screen in the bottom left hand corner rather than the top left.

Perfect fruit can be sold for higher than regular fruit.

Also, flowers now sparkle after being watered, so it is easier for you to see what you have watered already, or missed.
Gold tools return (silver bought at the museum's upstairs floor) and the gold can waters a large range of plants at a time.
Tree stumps will occasionally have patterns that allow you to grow mushrooms around the stump..
Outdoor furniture / town decorations are called '
public works projects
'. These include:
sculpted hedges (e.g. tulip-shaped)
open shacks/ sheds
photo ops (face in hole picture things)
signs (caution, stop, yield and custom)
bridges (several kinds: the original grey stone bridge, a new wooden suspension bridge, and a new red brick bridge among others)
small flower gardens
logs that you may sit on

You buy and build bridges whenever you want, with a maximum of having three existing bridges at a time.
Sitting on tree stumps.
You can get a tan by going to the beach (or island) and stay for 15 minutes straight between the dates of July 16th - Sep. 15th. Wearing an accessory
or holding an umbrella will prevent you from getting a tan.
Wall-hanging items (such as wall clocks, air conditioners, etc.) can be placed above floor
diving for fish

where you can visit other towns in your sleep, or have other people visit your town. The good thing about this feature is that if visitors wreck your town the effects won't stick because you are dreaming! You unlock this town by playing over the internet.
A museum shop run by Celeste where you can set up your own exhibits and buy silver
Tom Nook runs
where you can now buy upgrades to change the outside look of your house to suit your style such as fencing, walls, and the mailbox. Lyle will have a stand at the bottom left corner inside of Nook's Homes, where he is in charge of the Happy Room Academy.
A photo booth will be in the mall area, where you may take photos to put on your player's ID card.
You can upgrade some or all of the stores.
You can learn and hold every emotion now (unlike in previous games where you could only hold four).
(you'll be able to change your eye colour in the same way you change your hairstyle).
Your town is bigger than the towns in the previous games.
The Japanese title is "Tobidase Dōbutsu no Mori" (translates to "Animal Crossing: Jump Out!").
The English title is: "Animal Crossing: New Leaf".

You can buy fortune cookies. You buy these with play coins you've earned (in the usual way by walking around with your 3DS) Timmy and Tommy sell Cookies with Nintendo items for 2 play coins. Crazy Redd sells cookies for 500 bells with random prizes at the fireworks festival.
There are miniature
Returning fishing tourney and bug catching tourney, with a winners podium and multiple trophies.
You can buy candy for Halloween again.
Rainbows! (SECRET: If you pull clovers while there is a rainbow, you get a four-leaf clover. Only once that day, though.)
Redd sells statues.
. Now when you catch a fish or bug, along with a catchy sentence / pun (e.g., "I caught a dace- Woo! In your face!") it will actually tell you how big (or small) your catch is!
You can choose which type of ordinance you want in your town. Here are the different types:
Beautiful Town (cockroaches, weeds and rubbish like boots and tires turn up less in your town.)
Early Bird (shops open earlier and villagers wake up earlier.)
Night Owl (opposite of Early Bird)
Wealthy Town (items are more expensive to buy and sell)
Nothing in particular (no change).
Ordinances will cost 20,000 Bells to get them changed and you can change them as many times as you want but you can only have ONE at a time.
You can hold up to ten designs.
Your pocket can contain up to sixteen items.
Instead of just fishing and bug catching you can dive for sea creatures, which is a different category all together.
You talk to Isabelle to confirm your birthday.
You plant the '
' after you talk to Isabelle about your birthday.
You start off with five villagers in your town.
You can choose the layout of your town map as you ride into town on the train.
You earn points by doing various things as mayor until you reach 100%. In a few days your development permit will arrive. After it arrives you can start building public works projects and creating different town ordinances.
Isabelle is the one to open the game for you and load your profile, not Rover/K.K. as in previous versions.
Tortimer visits you after your second house expansion as mayor and invites you to the

You can register your Animal Crossing game on StreetPass by talking to Kent, Isabelle's younger brother.

You can still wear Mii masks like in AC:CF/AC:LGTTC.
Talking to villagers too much will cause them to tell you to go away.
On a clear, starry night, while looking at the sky you can make a wish as a shooting star crosses the screen. Just press the A button and your character will bring together their hands and make a silent wish. The following day, Wishy the Star will send you mail, along with a present.

There is one large tank for fish, but there are two other rooms with as many as eight smaller tanks between them.
When answering a question with Yes or No, your head nods up and down or shakes left and right.
You can still kick the dirt to fill in holes. You also kick dirt to get rid of designs on the ground.
Hold down the "A" button on your Nintendo 3DS while holding a net to slowly creep up to a bug. Release the "A" button to swat the net at the bug.
With two screens on the 3DS, when you enter your house a light switch will appear on the bottom screen. You can use this to turn lights on and off, as well as using the item itself.
The beach surrounds the town on two sides. There is a dock to get to the lower beach which will get you to the Island.
Labelle's Accessory store music is the same as Able's. However, it does not play in the same accordion style. The mood changes to more of a lower chime or xylophone sounding music. There are three Accessories, three Hats and one Umbrella for sale.
If you shake a tree and disturb the bees, they will still chase and sting you. However, after your stinging experience you may go back and pick up the Bee Hive itself and put it in your pocket. You can then take it to Reese (Pink Alpaca) at the
store as shown
. She buys it for 500 bells (if the bell amount is the same as US)
The upholsterer run by Cyrus (Blue Alpaca) is caught
snoring on his desk.
When you donate to the Museum you may donate multiple different items at the same time provided they are not in the museum already (shown
). In the video Blathers took three bugs at once and they were available to see in the Exhibit. Moments later, he also took seven fish at the same time. It should also be noted that Blathers will take all items that have not been donated and return duplicates after accepting the originals, should more than one of the same type of item be donated at the same time.

AC:NL Dresser space is comparable to AC:WW. There are 3 slots: A, B, and C. Each letter holds 10 spots per page and six pages for a total of 180 items.
Fish are very abundant. In the video, I watched them catch from river and ocean, seven fish, a boot, and threw one back, in under two minutes.
When placing a pattern in Able's shop you have the choice of using a

There is a Furniture item Doghouse that has a dog that does not come out, but will growl at you.
Kapp'n sings on the way to the Island, and back from the Island.
When you arrive on the Island you enter a gift shop where there is Hawaiian music playing. An ABD is available, and you may buy a Wetsuit there. Talk to the clerk behind the counter to go on tours with Tortimer. Any items you collect go in a storage bin in the gift shop. When you arrive back to the mainland village, there is another storage bin on the dock that will contain your items from the Island. These bins each hold ten items per page and have four pages, for a total of 40 items.
While visiting another town you may put some items in a storage locker linked to your house storage at the Train Station You may use this new feature to place things in your own personal storage without going back and forth between towns. Confirmed that you may put Fish in this locker, which would be available at home. You could not put Fish in storage in previous versions.
The Rafflesia is pretty sure to be back. It is confirmed in the museum, so it stands to reason if you don't take care of your town, you will get the Rafflesia eventually.
Nookling's shop and Re-Tail (Thrift Store) will both purchase your unwanted items. Re-Tail will give you more bells for your unwanted items.
In this game you can now make 4 different types of Snowmen: Daddy-Snowman, Mommy-Snowman, Big Brother-Snowman and Baby-Snowman.
The proportions are-
Big on bottom + Big on top = Daddy-Snowman
Big on bottom + Small on top = Mommy-Snowman
Medium on bottom + Medium on top = Big Brother-Snowman
Small on bottom + Small on top = Baby-Snowman
Each gives different items.
The Underwater creatures have their own part of the Encyclopedia.
Villagers will clap when they hear you playing a instrument in your home or their home. Villagers will also wave or bow to you once you leave their house.
Villagers will react to your emotions.
You can only have one public work project being built at a time (e.g. you can't make a bridge while get donations for a bench).
